Who is Haleakalā Creative?

Aloha! We are Megan and Dallas. Two Virginia natives, turned lovers, who connect through creativity, nature, and a love for people. Our story with Haleakalā Creative began in Virginia Beach, Virginia when we first started Megan & Dallas Photography. We photographed our community there for 3 years before having an opportunity to live closer to family in Hawaii. Moving to Hawaii inspired and challenged us both greatly. The spirit of these Islands is unlike any other place we have been. Following our call to be light chasers led us to the concept of Haleakalā which translates to “House of the Sun”. This concept comes from the legend of the demigod, Maui, who lassoed the sun from the summit of Haleakalā in efforts to slow the sun's setting making the day last longer. The inspiration gathered from this legend and the spirit of aloha we have experienced led us to start our new adventure- Haleakalā Creative.

We started Haleakalā Creative to provide couples and families, visiting or local, with radiant, authentic, unique images. Our photography focuses on the raw expressions and real moments created while we are together. We use light in our technique to highlight the beauty that already lies within the relationship that we are photographing. Capturing these magical moments helps memories last just a little bit longer.

  • Meet Dallas

    Aloha! My name is Dallas and I was not born in Texas. I spend most of my time outdoors either playing disc golf, swimming in the ocean, or photographing and creating. I love being in the ocean, flying my drone, and somehow adopting a new hobby every couple of months (Sorry, Megan). I have a deep interest in people, places, and cultures and look forward to getting to know your story too.

  • Meet Reese

    Woof! I am pretty nervous around new people, but my name is Reese. I am a lounger by day…well and by night too. I love chasing tennis balls, and sniffing almost everything, but nothing gets me more stoked than getting a treat. Although I am nervous when I first meet you, once I have sniffed you enough I will be your best friend for life.

  • Meet Megan

    Aloha! My name is Megan. I am a teacher by day and a very excited photographer by golden hour. I am pretty much obsessed with Brené Brown, beach days, and spending time with my boys. If you are looking for a master planner, a loyal shopping buddy (I get that from my Nana), or a long conversation at a coffee shop, I’m your girl. I cannot wait to get to know you!

Haleakalā Favorites

  • Island Drives

    We love a good window-down-music-up-drive around the island.

  • Beach Days

    If we are are not running errands on a Saturday, we are at the beach. Preferably, with PB&J’s and Arnold Palmers.

  • Snorkeling

    One way that we connect, outside of our creativity, is being in the water and seeing all that it has to offer.

  • Botanicals

    It is very likely if you see us out late on a Saturday night, we are walking around the Home Depot Garden Center looking for new plants. We love plants so much we got married in a garden.

  • Tide Pools

    Our favorite activity to do with Reese is to get some fresh air and check the tide pools.

  • Shave Ice

    By far one of the best perks of living in Hawaii is the shave ice (extra ice cream on the bottom if you are Pie).
